Recent Home Photos That Made Me Smile

Today, I thought I’d share some recent candid home photos that made me smile.

I’m forever captivated by the light in our home. Often when I’m walking through the house the light catches my eye and a scene I’ve seen thousands of times suddenly looks different. Special. Noteworthy.

I really wish my camera could capture the feeling those fleeting moments evoke for me. Perhaps it’s the warmth from the afternoon light or just how lucky I feel that we get to live here. But that might be putting a lot of pressure on a camera.

This view from my kiddo’s room that I cleverly cropped so you can’t see the pile of clothes sitting on the chair made me smile. This room has a quirky layout that doesn’t come across in pictures but it does in real life. It’s funny how a layout problem for one family can be a blessing for another family.

Winter is not my favorite season but one morning I woke up to this view. It was unseasonably warm. The sky was bright blue as the sun was rising. The dew was glistening on the stone path.

The whole scene made me smile with gratitude because we get to live here. I still pinch myself.

Also, I’m still me. I can be grateful and still want spring to hurry up and get here.

This is my view when I finally sit down at the end of the day and take 30 minutes to drink my hot chocolate and read a book or scroll through Instagram.

I choose to sit here instead of on the couch because this view makes me smile the most.

Do you have a favorite spot to sit in your house too?

On sunny days in the dead of winter, I open the sunporch doors and allow the warmth from the sunporch to heat the living room. I can raise the temperature in the living room by about 5 degrees Fahrenheit by doing this.

While that energy-saving trick does make me happy, it’s how the light filters in from all the windows and casts lines upon the floor that makes me smile. Also, I do like how the sunporch has a pop of unexpected color in my otherwise white-walled house.

We often enjoy spectacular sunsets here in New Jersey but they hit a bit differently in the dead of winter.

Where there is an absence of color, the sunset fills up that void with its vivid oranges, reds, yellows, and purples…at least for a few minutes.

On this particular day, to see this glorious sight and to realize that the sun is now going down after 5 p.m. made me smile.

We have had a seemingly warm and dry winter here in New Jersey. There has been scarcely any snow.

I did get out my snow shovel one time this year on the day I took this below picture, but I didn’t really need to because the rain came and melted the inch or so of snow we received pretty quickly.

I love how our house looks in the snow though, so this sight made me smile…and hope for spring and summer.

A blog post about recent home photos that made me smile would not be complete without multiple pictures of my piano. I also affectionately refer to it as my baby and my ball and chain.

When most people buy a house they ask themselves where the tv will go. Not me. I ask where the piano will go.

Thankfully, this home had a spot for the piano.

I love to travel and experience new places but home is my favorite place to be. We have lived in many different places so it’s not about the actual dwelling so much but more the sense of home that makes me happy.

Is home an actual place or more of a feeling to you? Does the light in your home catch your eye too? Do you have a favorite spot to sit at night? I’d love to know. You can always comment on this blog post, email me here, or reach out via Instagram or Facebook.
