13 DIY Fall Decor Ideas to Make When You’re Feeling Crafty
Most of us get the itch – the crafty one – and need to create something, anything! Today I’m rounding up 13 DIY fall decor ideas to make when you’re in the mood to be crafty.
I’m sharing these now because I know as soon as Starbucks releases their pumpkin spice latte later this month some of you will ditch summer faster than a child’s ice cream cone melts on a swelteringly hot day.
(P.S. Never order a little kid a cone. Always a dish of ice cream. Always. Thank me later.)
These 13 DIY fall decor ideas are not listed in any particular order. I wouldn’t be able to pick a favorite, but you can tell me yours!
WOOD LEAF WREATH | Directions
Stop what you’re doing. Yes, I know you’re reading this blog. I’ll allow it this time. Stop what you’re doing and go order these plain wood leaves.
I stained mine, and made a wood leaf wreath out of them, but there are so many possibilities for how you could craft with these leaves. I should probably order more.
Wreath directions can be found here.
WOOD ACORN WREATH | Directions
If wood leaves aren’t your thing, how about wood acorns?
These acorns come unfinished, and we are not going to talk about how many times I have purchased these. You’ll probably be able to hazard a close guess by the end of this blog post though.
Again, the possibilities for how you could craft with these cuties are endless.
Wreath directions, including how I drilled into the acorns can be found here.
JUNKY PUMPKIN | Details
Do not throw out your old tool-related items. You might be able to turn them into a junky pumpkin this autumn season.
This one is made with piano wire, leather, copper wire, a fireplace damper opener thingie (technical term), and an old saw blade.
Get the junky pumpkin details here.
WOOD ACORN GARLAND | Directions
My, my. Look what showed up again. The wood acorns. This time in garland form.
I love that the wood acorns were a slightly different natural color from the wood beads, so they contrast so nicely on this garland. I can’t wait to pull this out again.
Get the garland directions here. This is easier than stringing popcorn on a string, but not as tasty.
REAL ACORN TIC TAC TOE | Directions
For you faux acorn skeptics, I present to you real acorn tic tac toe. There’s no reason a pretty game can’t be decor too!
I gathered these acorns up like a squirrel, and painted them like a human. Just make sure nothing is living inside of the acorns before you start using them. That kind of ruins the fun.
Get the directions here.
BRASS PUMPKIN | Directions
If you know how to solder, or have ever wanted to learn how to solder, this is the craft for you!
As a side note, it is unfortunate that the word solder does not look how it is pronounced. Middle English borrowed and then really mucked that word up from Old French. I guess we’re stuck with it now.
Get the brass pumpkin directions, and maybe a correct pronunciation here.
PUMPKIN CENTERPIECE | Details
If all of my crafts seem like too much work, this one is for you. Flower arranging counts as crafting on this blog because I make the rules. Convenient, I know.
The other thing I know is that there’s a harvest-themed bowl, basket, or maybe a pumpkin soup tureen sitting neglected in the back of your kitchen cabinets.
Pull that cutie out, and give it its moment to shine…as a vase. Get the details here.
DENIM PUMPKIN | Directions
Warm up your glue gun and prepare for maximum crafting fun.
Styrofoam pumpkins from the dollar store are a great medium for fall crafting. Here, I’ve covered them in something I have a lot of, scrap denim, but any scrap fabric will transform these blah pumpkins into something unique.
Get the denim pumpkin directions here.
CANDIED APPLE
I called this a leather pumpkin on the original blog post. Everyone else called it a candied apple.
Occasionally, I like to give the people what they want, so candied apple it is today.
This craft is a riff on the denim pumpkins, but using leather instead of denim.
Get the candied apple directions here.
LEAF-STAMPED WOOD ROUNDS | Directions
I’d like to think I found a way to elevate your basic preschool craft. Take that, preschoolers!
You don’t get second chances when leaf-stamping on wood rounds, so I did the trial and error to figure out the best way to do this. You can hang one leaf-stamped wood round or a group of wood rounds, and they will make an impact! In addition, I think these work for spring or fall.
Get the leaf-stamped wood round directions here.
HALLOWEEN PLANTERS | Directions
Did you know you can make decals with black duct tape and parchment paper?
These DIY decals will FOR SURE bring a smile to your face if you are decorating your front porch for fall or Halloween.
Get the Halloween planter decal directions here.
GIANT TIC TAC TOE | Directions
Alright, this one might not count as decor. But it can be fun if you are planning a party!
Way back in my Pinterest Mom Era, I made this game for a classroom party using cardboard, paint, mini pumpkins, and gourds. It was a big hit with the kindergarten crowd.
Get the details here.
WOOD ACORN NAPKIN RINGS | Directions
Speaking of parties, kindergarteners might not appreciate napkin rings, but your Friendsgiving guests might.
Look what made another appearance on this list – the wood acorns! They sure like the limelight.

I hope one or more of these 13 DIY fall decor ideas inspires you in some way, shape, or form. While it’s always flattering when someone makes one of my crafts, it feels really amazing to know that something you saw here sparked an idea or got your creative wheels turning. I love seeing what you create.
