DIY Floral Witch’s Hat

Gleeful is the only word to describe how I feel about showing you the floral witch’s hat I crafted last week.

I want you to like it as much as I do, but it’s just not possible. I’m so obsessed, you’d think I came up with the idea on my own. This is kind of funny because I’m not sure if there are any truly original ideas out there anymore.

Adding flowers to a witch’s hat is definitely not original, but it’s the first time I’ve done it, so it feels brand new to me. We’ll call this craft an Annisa Original. I might fly in a little late to the crafting party, but I’ll have a howling good time when I arrive.

I clipped some vines from our grapevine and twisted them together to make a wreath for the base of my witch’s hat.

My hat then needed some color, and I have plenty of weeds growing on our property, but none that are giving off witchy, fall vibes.

The weeds around my house are more straight from Satan himself. I could really use an exorcism to rid our property of the dandelions, crabgrass, and poison ivy.

Anyway, I digress. The wreath base of my floral witch’s hat is natural, but the berries and leaves are faux. This gives me more flexibility on how long I can use my new creation and where I can put it.

A floral witch’s hat needs her moment to shine, but I wasn’t sure I would be the best model for this creation. Might need to work up to that.

How about a pumpkin head to model my witch’s hat instead? Yep. Makes total sense. ‘Tis pumpkin season after all.

Shout out to Handy Husband for helping me pick out pumpkins for this endeavor at the esteemed pumpkin patch inside Walmart.

This may surprise you. We have very different pumpkin selection methods.

He would grab the first pumpkin he saw off the top of the bin because they all look the same to him.

I would see a small sliver of a pumpkin at the very bottom of the bin, and have a gut feel that it might be “the one.”

As soon as he’d pull the pumpkin out from the bottom of the pile for me, he’d say, “I’ll put it in the cart.” To which I’d reply, “No, wait. I have to look at it first. Don’t rush me. I’m not sure yet.”

There were some deep sighs…from both of us.

If there is anything that can test Handy Husband’s patience, it is waiting for me to select the perfect pumpkin from Walmart’s pumpkin patch. Unfortunately for him, I needed more than one.

I picked out six. I could work with that.

Keep in mind that if you make a floral witch’s hat, and I hope you do, the flowers add weight to the hat. This can cause the brim to droop. In fact, it might droop so much that flowers, berries, and anything else you added to the hat may fall right off faster than you can say Wingardium Leviosa.

I learned this as soon as I finished my creation and picked it up from my dining room table. Oopsie.

It was almost as fun making the hat the second time.

Truly. That wasn’t sarcasm. I really was having a good time.

To give the brim some structure without damaging the hat (I might want to wear it later), I tacked a metal wreath form to the underside of the brim with a few stitches of black thread.

The cherry on top of this Halloween crafting sundae was being able to use the stone fireplace in our Carriage House as a backdrop for these photos. Is there a more perfect setting? I think not.

I don’t know where the hat and pumpkins will end up after this, as I was mainly focused on creating something pretty, not practical, but I’ll have fun figuring it out.

What do you think of my floral witch’s hat? Do you love creating things just for fun, too? Are you going to a pumpkin patch this year? Is it located inside Walmart?

P.S. I appreciate your visit because I’m not good at selling things to keep this blog afloat. My witch’s hat is really old. The faux greenery came from Michael’s. Don’t shop there without a coupon.
